hi
im Amogh Desai
im from Goa-India,imdoing Polytechnic in Electronics Engg.& i have
interest in ham radio.
I found a BFO ckt on ur site using a 'BF194b'
can u please tell me what is the polarity of this transistor (i.e.E,B,& C) also tell me how should i connect the 2x gang capacitor b'coz it has 3 leads(i dont know which one is ground lead hat to do with the 3rd lead).
i connected the ckt as per the diagram but its not working.
On the site u said that the locall generated carrier beats with the ssb signal what this exactly means?
what will happen if i turn ON the BFO & tune to a normal SW station, will it sound different? it will start beating with the BFO Frequency, does this mean my radio will start giving a beating or clapping sound?
Can i use a IFT for this BFO that is used in haterodyne recievers?

Im using a superhaterodyne reciever, one with three IFTS in the if amp.
it has only two bands mw & sw.I made it using a radio kit(called JETKING KIT)
can i disconnect the diode detector from my reciever & put a Product detector to recieve SSB signals? if yes, then please suggest me a practical product detector which can be directly connected to my recievers demodulating signal.
Im not getting mosfet '3SK73' tll me any equivalent which can be found in the market,or if have a frequency downconverter circuit (for 455KHz to 12KHz conversion) I need it to connect my reciever to my computer.
I know im asking u a lot of questions but i stay in a village & there is no one in my locality or college who knows anything about HAM Radio.
if u know any HAM operator from GOA then Please tell me i can take some help from him to take lisence for ham operation or for building my transiever & other circuits.
Please send me a reply on this.u r the only hope i've left for information raguarding HAM.
thank U

You have web access you can look up semiconductor databases and find the polarization of the transistor and capacitor, as I don't know.

If you have ever listened to SW and heard what you thought was a duck that is SSB and thats what a BFO is for. SSB filters (of phases) out the carrier and one sideband and the BFO in essence adds the carrier back in so it can be demodulated. So if you turn it on while listening to a regular station it will sound interesting.
