Hello, I’m Mike
I started in SWL back in the late 60’s with Hammarlund radios. And I was into it for 3-4 years.
I got back into it in the mid 80’s with a Sony ICF-2002. It was a great little radio and I think I got 50-60 countries out of it to with out to much trouble with a good antenna (this I will describe).
The antenna was an all-in one unit that had 5-6 horizontal antenna segments 9the longest being around 8-10’) of different lengths all tapped in the center to a common tap. The concept being that each length was a match for a different band width. Anyone remember that antenna? I seemed to work well.
So, there are few questions that I seek advice on since technology has changed a lot since then.
A. What radio to buy? I do not want to buy a portable radio. I want something that will take me to some good finds. Because I am an engineer (therefore technically oriented and love computers) and like new tech I am thinking about a Win Radio G303e or a G313e. Any comments on these radios and the technology (PC based radios) are welcome. Are they better for SWL DXing than a conventional table top receiver of the same price range?
B. I will have to try to get my antenna inside the attic of my house (north-west, South-east orientation) and have about 20 feet to work with on that axis. An comment/suggestions are welcome
All comments are welcome,
Thanks,
